K1 - Engine Control Unit (ECU)
Description
K1 - Engine Control Unit (ECU) is a special microprocessor-controlled system designed to control
injection, ignition and other functions of combustion engines without turbo. It is built based on 32-bit technology
for high processing power allowing excellent precision. It is an open system with numerous possible
configurations of functions based on the needs and wishes of customers. K1 - Engine Control Unit can be adapted
to most of commonly used sensors for checking various engine conditions making it universal system
capable of control of wide range of engine types. All inputs and outputs are protected
against short circuit and other error conditions, thus eliminating the risk of damage.
Features
K1 - Engine Control Unit is an open system with universal inputs and outputs. Each of the
inputs and outputs can be flexibly assigned to a specific function, being it pre-defined function
or tailor-made function as required by customer. The customer can pick only the functions he needs
in order to get the best value for his money. Other functions can be added later once the extended
functionality is needed. The unit's firmware is easily upgradable for any change of configuration, firmware
version change or functionality extension. Key control parameters of the unit can be set
using the the bundled PC software in orderto get the maximum performance from the engine.
The unit control parameters can be password protected against unathorised access or modification.
The K1 ECU can be pre-configured for two different systems of getting the engine position - either
from the distributor or for higher precision using the sensors of the crankshaft and camshaft
position.
Function list
The functions are divided into four groups:
- Injection control
- Ignition control
- Other control functions
- Data collection and engine tuning
Injection control
- Injection control - based on the stored 3D map giving the amount of injected fuel based on the current throttle position
and engine speed. Two such maps can be stored and switched by the driver while the engine is running.
The unit can control up to 6 injectors in sequence or up to 12 grouped or parallel injectors.
- Ambient pressure and temperature correction - the calculation of amount of injected fuel
is corrected by the current ambient pressure and temperature using built-in pressure sensor.
- Voltage correction - allows to eliminate the dependency of opening and closing of injectors on
the input voltage.
- Engine ventilation – In case of engine start and throttle being more than 85% open the fuel will
not be injected allowing ventilation of the cylinders.
- Engine start – handling of injection during start and rich fuel mixture for cold engine.
Ignition control
- Ignition control - based on the stored 3D map for ignition timing calculation based on the
throttle position and engine speed.
- Spark power control – keeps the spark power independent on the engine speed. The spark power can be
modified to ensure ignition in all engine regimes.
Other control functions
- Fuel pump control – safety switch-off of the fuel after engine stop. Possible control of fuel system pressurization
before the engine start.
- Cooling fan – setting of cooling liquid temperature thresholds for switching on/off the cooling fan.
- Rev limiter – Multi-stage rev limiter which temporarily disables the injection once the current rpm gets over
the maximum allowed. Different threshold can be set for each injector allowing finer limitation.
- Indication of high rpm – a signal light indicating rpm has reached the preset value.
Data collection and engine tuning
- Logging of engine speed, ignition timing, two lambda values, cooling liquid temperature, ambient pressure
and temperature, throttle position and battery voltage. Values are showed in real time and can be stored
for further processing.
Sensors and action units.
K1 - Engine Control Unit can be adapted to various common sensors and action elements.
LED indication on the unit allows quick control
of functionality of the attached elements and the unit itself.
